This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it. Psalm 132:14
This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it. Psalm 132:14
This verse is talking about where God chooses to dwell with his people. The Lord has chosen Zion and he desired it for His resting place. Zion is not a reference to a physical place but more likely the heavenly Zion. We know that we could never build a house for God. All our attempts are in vain and while they may be beautiful and display many talents and much creativity it is still just as a stone on the ground. Our attempts do not compare in the least to the heavenly place that He has already made for us. God has dwelt with us symbolically through the ark of the covenant in the temple and he has dwelt with us physically through the incarnation of His son, Jesus. And He dwells with us spiritually through the gift of the Holy Spirit and the church. Eventually we will get to dwell with him in the new heaven and the new earth. What a gift that will be. Do you desire it? Do you want to dwell in the Lord’s house forever? I cannot think of a better place to be.
Let’s talk about resting for a minute too. God rested. God did His work, creating the world and then He rested. Do you think God felt guilty for resting? Nope, I don’t think He did. He showed us great work ethic, work hard, get things done according to the plan and then rest. Don’t rest and then do the work, don’t play and then do a little bit of what is expected. I know the analogy falls short but just keep in mind that REST, true rest, is NOT laziness. Work hard, play hard, and rest. Rest in His promises. Rest in the Lord and dwell in His house.
