Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise! Psalm 84:4

What is the house of the Lord? His tabernacle, His Sanctuary. The psalmist is expressing his LOVE for the house of the Lord, because who wants to “dwell” in a place they don’t want to be in? You can tell he has a desire to be in the house of the Lord and wants to spend time there singing, worshipping, experiencing the gifts of God.

You can tell that the writer of the Psalm would rather be in the house of the Lord than any other place. He is calling those who dwell in the house of the Lord, blessed. To be blessed and to dwell in His house is the best thing I can think of. While sitting in the sanctuary on Sunday I was drawn to the stained glass image of Jesus on the cross. I was taking in the sight of the Lord hanging on the cross for ME and singing the hymn and tears came to my eyes. I have let Him down time and time again and yet I am in His house, singing His praise and being blessed, even though I’m a poor miserable sinner. What a gift. What a blessing.

God is so, so, good to us. He gives us more than we deserve.  Many people say that they can worship without being in the sanctuary and while that may be true to a small extent I wouldn’t make a habit of it. Gathering with other believers and DWELLING in His house is the best place for us to be. Let us continue to meet together in His house and sing His praise.
