Let me dwell in your tent forever! Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings! Psalm 61:4
Dwelling in one’s tent is a lot like saying that you’re living under the same roof. It implies being part of a family. The center of worship began in a “tabernacle” or tent. So this could have been a double meaning from David, he wanted to be part of God’s chosen family and had a desire to be in the place of worship. I am praying that my desire is the same.
We’ve talked about the shelter of the wings in previous months. I’m praying that I would be in the shadow of the Lord, close enough to be under His wings and close enough to be in His shadow. There is no better place to be. It is very easy to forget where we are though. It is easy sometimes to forget that we are God’s chosen people and that He is our shelter. When we try to do things by ourselves, when we focus on the world we are living in instead of longing for and seeking after the world that is to come we forget that our shelter is the creator of the universe, our protection is from the Lord Almighty. We are at liberty to draw near to God and dwell with him wherever we are. The world separates us from many comforts, we are driving to fear, debt, famine and sword and those things draw us closer to God who is our ultimate comfort through faith and prayer.
I find that when I need to be comforted turning to the Lord and just telling him my fear, my worry, my need for Him brings me great comfort. Speaking His name and dwelling with Him brings me joy and peace. I can’t think of a better place to be when there are trials knocking at my door. My anxiety is calmed, my fears seem trivial, and my worry is lessened when I remember WHO I am. I am a daughter of the King. A child of God. No one can harm or keep my soul. My eternal dwelling place is certain. I have nothing to fear. I am His and He loves me. May you understand His love and his comforts even more today and in the coming days. May you feel peace and shelter in the most High. May you know how much you are loved, cherished, and worth dying for. May you find shelter and dwell in His tent forever.
