Summer never lasts long enough. And I do not want to wish it away but I also want to prepare my heart and mind for what is coming next. My oldest is leaving the proverbial nest for a new adventure. My third child is starting high school. AND my baby is going to kindergarten. So, all six kids in school, full-time. Man, I am not ready for this and yet, I am.

I keep wondering if I’ve taught and modeled for my oldest daughter all the things she needs to know to be successful. I mean, I know I haven’t but, have I done enough? Again, the answer is no. But the best news is, in the places that I am not enough (and that’s everywhere) Jesus is.

I don’t need to be enough. I don’t need to have all the answers. I don’t need to check things off a list and make sure that I’ve taught ALL. THE. THINGS. Yes, I do need to do my part, but Jesus is the best teacher of all. Jesus is our everything. I pray that I have taught her (and all my kids) to seek after Jesus in all circumstances. In plenty and in want. Thy will be done. Not what we want but His will.

I am so very grateful that I am able to send my kids to schools where the teachers teach like Jesus. They are teaching His ways in many different subjects. They are clinging to the cross and teaching my kids to do the same.

I am holding on to summer and enjoying the time at home with my kids. But I am looking forward to the time when we have routines and great teachers coming alongside us in the formation of our kids and their character.
